Europe plans crackdown on ‘toxic’ hedge funds

The Times – The European Commission is preparing a crackdown on hedge funds and their peers to stop them triggering a “wave of contagion” that could bring down the financial sector, according to leaked documents seen by The Times.

The shadow banking industry, a term that covers hedge funds, money-market funds and structured investment vehicles, could be forced to hold more capital to stop it running out of cash in the event of another crisis.
