IT may not be up there with the half a bar recently forked out by billionaire Philip Green for a little-known rugger player’s shirt, but the thirsty City boys attending Lawrence Dallaglio’s benefitdinner this week were waving their wads. Top price paid at the charity auction was 33,000, for the right to have dinner with Dallaglio at Claridge’s. The tired and emotional winning bidder from hedgefund Lydian Asset Management declined to be named but commented: “Well I’m a massive rugby fan, ain’t I?”
