HedgeCo.Net started in 2002 as a public source of hedge fund listings, news, and related industry information. Conferences and manager marketing were added in the mid-2000s. In 2025, founder Evan Rapoport reacquired the site.

HedgeCo.Net is a free alternative-investment database and news site. Coverage includes hedge funds, private equity, venture, crypto, real estate, and SPVs. Database access is free for approved investors. HedgeCo Ventures LLC, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, operates the site. HedgeCo is not a broker-dealer or an investment adviser.

In 2008, the firm received a strategic investment from InterAtlantic Group, fueling expansion into fund administration (via G&S Fund Services) and technology. Soon after, founder Evan Rapoport shifted focus to launch SmartX Advisory Solutions, which became the fastest-growing TAMP in history — raising more than $33 billion for asset managers with equity backing from Morningstar and venture capital firms.

2026 focus

  • Broaden listings across alternative investments, not hedge funds only
  • Keep database access free for approved investors
  • Publish news and education without unsourced size or performance claims

HedgeCo.Net is being updated as an alternatives database and news site. It does not claim to be the world’s largest directory, and this page does not publish a user or fund count.

Our Journey

2008

Strategic Growth & Investment

2010–2012

Scaling Services

HedgeCo Websites served hedge fund clients and was sold to Financial Services Media in 2012. HedgeCo.Net remained the public database and news site.

2013

By late 2013, HedgeCo.Net was an established public hedge fund directory and news site, with listings across strategies and geographies. This page does not restate a user or fund count from that period.

2014

Technology Breakthrough

HedgeCoVest unveiled at FinovateFall, enabling investors and advisors to replicate hedge fund strategies in real time.

2015–2019

SmartX Era

Evan Rapoport focuses on building SmartX Advisory Solutions, which becomes the fastest-growing turnkey asset management platform (TAMP) for advisors, raising over $33 billion for asset managers. HedgeCo.net continues to run but is not the central focus.

2020–2023

SmartX Recognition & Monetization

Morningstar and venture capital firms acquire equity in SmartX. Rapoport steps down after the platform achieves record adoption and later joins Social Leverage as a Venture Partner.

2024–present

Return to HedgeCo

Evan Rapoport reacquires 100% of HedgeCo.net. Relaunch efforts begin with a mission to:

  • Keep database access free for approved investors
  • Apply advisor-focused distribution expertise from SmartX to bring HedgeCo's data to the wealth management community
