SEC defends tighter rules for some hedge funds

MarketWatch – A top government official on Tuesday defended the new Financial Stability Oversight Council’s authority to impose stricter leverage and capital limits on some hedge funds and private equity funds.

“There are prototypical private equity and hedge funds, and there are non- prototypical firms,” said Robert Plaze, associate director, division of investment management at the Securities and Exchange Commission.
