STAMFORD, Connecticut (AP) — A third man has pleaded guilty in the kidnapping of one of America’s wealthiest men.
Lorenzo Jones, 18, of New Haven, pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree kidnapping with a firearm and first-degree robbery in the Jan. 10 abduction of Edward Lampert from a Greenwich parking garage.
Jones was sentenced to 13 years in prison in a plea deal, the Greenwich Time reported in Wednesday editions.
Prosecutors said Lampert, chairman of the hedge fund ESL Investments, was held in a hotel room, handcuffed and blindfolded, then released the next day.
Three other defendants were charged in federal court; Jones had been sent to state court because of his age.
Shemone Gordon, 23, pleaded guilty to six felony counts related to the kidnapping and a Dec. 24 robbery of a UPS driver. Authorities say the kidnappers had planned to use the stolen UPS uniform in the abduction.
Devon Harris, 19, pleaded guilty to a charge that he took one of Lampert’s credit cards.
Renaldo Rose, 23, who police say planned the abduction, has pleaded innocent to federal charges and was ordered held without bail until his trial.
Lampert is worth an estimated $800 million and is No. 288 on the Forbes list of wealthiest Americans.
