Fewer hedge funds shut down in second quarter, HFR says

Market Watch – Fewer hedge funds shut down in the second quarter, a sign the $1.4 trillion industry is starting to recover from record losses and liquidations last year.

The second quarter saw 292 funds liquidate, a 22% decrease from the 376 funds that closed their doors in the first quarter. After a record 1,471 liquidations in 2008, 668 hedge funds shut down in the first half of this year, the research firm reported.
