Bloomberg- A sculpture by Jeff Koons, whose collectors include billionaire Eli Broad and hedge-fund manager David Ganek, will be sold at a November contemporary art sale in New York at Christie’sInternational.
Koons’s “Blue Diamond” from 2005, made of shiny stainless steel seven-feet wide, is one of a series of differently tinted sculptures produced by the U.S. artist, the auction house said in a statement. The price estimate and the seller’s name weren’t disclosed.
The valuation is about $12 million, said the New York Times. The owner may be publisher Benedikt Taschen, the newspaper said, citing people familiar with Koons’s work whom it didn’t identify.
Koons’s pink diamond was on show last year in the garden of London’s Victoria and Albert Museum, on loan from Ganek’s collection. A green diamond was sold in 2006 by Gagosian gallery at Switzerland’s Art Basel fair. California collector Broad paid about $3.5 million for one of Koons’s “Cracked Egg” sculptures in the same year.
