Goldstein beat SEC on hedge fund rule

Morris County Daily Record – That fellow who recently forced the Securities and Exchange Commission to stop trying to register hedge funds?

He turns out to be smart, gabby and garrulous, and colorful. And he recently set up shop in New Jersey!

Phil Goldstein, 61, just moved his offices from Pleasantville, N.Y., to Saddle Brook in Bergen County. I heard him talk Monday at a press conference in New York and interviewed him Thursday.

Goldstein and his four associates — one of whom lives in Montville, one in Dumont — run three hedge funds under the umbrella name Bulldog Investors. Bulldog is an appropriate name. (Doberman Pinscher Investors would have been pretty good, too.)
