WEST PALM BEACH, FL (HEDGECO.NET) – A new released study shows that the majority of institutional investors are looking to increase their exposure to hedge fund investment strategies. The new poll,undertaken by the London based investment manager Mellon Global Investments, shows that more than 70% of the respondents in the study are looking to increase exposure to hedge funds, through the fundof hedge funds portfolios.
The new survey polled more than 100 different institutions, including investment consultants, as well as other investment professionals in June. Additionally, only 34.4% of those in the survey have some existing exposures in hedge fund investment strategies. Other respondents said they are interested in learning more about hedge fund strategies before investing in them.
The result of this new poll is in keeping with the prevailing trend of growing numbers of institutional investors, including pension plans and endowments showing interest in hedge fund investment strategies. Many financial planners have also indicated their interest in increasing their hedge fund portfolios once the SEC completes its regulatory process for hedge funds.
According to George Strickland, President of Financial Synergies Advisory Inc. in Houston Texas. Currently, not many financial planners invest or recommend hedge fund vehicles. Part of the problem according to Strickland, is inadequate hedge fund transparency to investors; this obstacle will be lifted when the SEC completes its regulatory oversight of hedge funds.
Commenting about the new study, Alan Mearns, head of marketing at Mellon Global said, “The poll highlights both the broad interest in hedge funds and clear desire on the part of pension funds…to have a deeper understanding of the products.”
