Hedge funds set to gain from new SA pension scheme laws

The East African – The hedge fund industry in South Africa is anticipating a boost in the near future following a revision of laws that has paved the way for allocation of a bigger proportion of the investment by investors.

According to new regulations that come into effect on July 1, pension funds, alongside other institutional and individual investors, can now devote up to 10 per cent of their assets to the hedge funds in a move that may offer lessons for other parts of the continent.
