U.S.’s Sobel Says EU, U.S. Should Cooperate on Hedge Fund Rules

BusinessWeek – Hedge funds in Europe and the U.S. need a “tough and rigorous oversight regime” that doesn’t inhibit transatlantic competition, a U.S. Treasury Department official said in Brussels today.

Mark Sobel, a deputy assistant secretary who often represents the U.S. in international finance ministry meetings, reiterated the Obama administration’s views on the issue in a speech at the Center for European Policy Studies.
