Globe And Mail – Do hedge funds need a new name? Hedging is a way of reducing risk, but many hedge funds proved to be hyper-risky after the experience of 2008.

We use the term hedge fund all the time when describing our product, but it really is a catch-all for all kinds of strategies that don’t fit under the traditional label. A better name might be alternative strategies. Or maybe we should be a little more specific, like using the term long-short equity fund [bets on stocks both rising and falling in price] or trend following [detecting trends in stocks and markets using various kinds of analysis].
