Yahoo News- Saul Pannell and Frank Catrickes’ hunt for investments has taken them to Brazil, China, India and South Africa. As a result, foreign stocks, including Companhia Vale do Rio Doce and Petroleo Brasileiro, account for a third of their Hartford Capital Appreciation Fund’s 79 holdings.
Although the fund falls into Morningstar’s large-cap blend category, it buys stocks of all sizes based on a bottom-up approach.
The managers work for Wellington Management, which Hartford hired as subadvisers for the fund. They interview company managers to confirm what they’ve already uncovered. They buy firms that can grow 25% faster than the market.
