Republcans oppose new rules for hedge funds

Hartford – Senate Republicans yesterday said they do not believe their Democratic colleague, Norwalk’s Bob Duff, will muster enough bipartisan support to regulate hedge funds this session.

“I can’t imagine this bill’s going to pass,” said Senate Minority Leader Pro Tempore John McKinney, R-Fairfield.

Duff’s legislation, voted out of the Banks Committee on Tuesday night to the Senate, would require funds to make new disclosures, including conflicts of interest among hedge fund managers andtheir clients. Duff, a committee co-chairman, shepherded the legislation with help from the attorney general’s office
