Hedge Fund Meets Mad Men As Interpublic Settles With Elliott Management

Forbes – Ad agency TV hit Mad Men plotted a number of Wall Street dramas including mergers, management buyouts, and bull and bear markets. But the hit AMC series never spoke to the hedge fund activists that are now storming the gates of publicly traded corporations, including ad agencies.

On Thursday, hedge fund Elliott Management settled an activist campaign against Interpublic Group, the owner of McCann Worldgroup, an agency that payed a prominent role in the middle seasons of Mad Men, by having three directors appointed to Interpublic’s board. The settlement ends the prospect of a proxy battle between Interpublic and Elliott, which disclosed an about 7% stake in the company in July and threatened a fight.
