(Cay Compass) The average hedge fund returned 7.27 percent through November of last year, almost doubling the performance of 2016, according to the Eurekahedge Hedge Fund Index. Comparable equity market benchmarks like the MSCI world equity index had a record year, following 13 consecutive months of gains that added $8 trillion and 22 percent to the market value of the stock index in 2017. Industry assets grew by US$188.2 billion during the year, with about half of the growth coming each from investor inflows and performance-based gains.
