S.E.C. Plans Hedge Fund Sweeps

NYT – Some hedge funds may find themselves in tight spot in 2010 — not because of the markets, but because of one regulator who’s setting his sights on wrongdoing in the industry.

“We have planned a number of significant sweeps of investment advisers,” George Canellos, the Securities and Exchange Commission’s New York Regional Director, told HedgeFund.net. “In the last few months — really in the last year or two — we have tried to orient our program, especially the investment management program, more toward cause- and risk-based exams.”
