Features Affinergy, ArrayXpress
The Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) today announced that two promising university spinouts – each led by well-known serial entrepreneurs – will present at CED’s upcoming Capital Connection Quarterly Luncheon. Affinergy, led by newly announced CEO Peyton Anderson, and ArrayXpress, led by interim CEO Michael Zapata, will both present their funding requirements and business strategies at CED’s Capital Connection Luncheon on Wednesday, Sept. 10, from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the RTP’s Sheraton Imperial Hotel.
Anderson, who co-founded SciQuest in 1995, recently announced that he is leaving the Durham-based company to become CEO of Duke University spinout Affinergy. Zapata, former CEO of LIPSinc, is currently the interim CEO of N.C. State University spinout ArrayXpress.
CED’s Sept. 10 luncheon showcases the Capital Connection program’s premier emerging companies to the entrepreneurial and investment communities. Seating is limited, and registration will close at 5 p.m. on Sept. 5. For more information or to register online, visit https://secure.cednc.org/cednc/events/register/streak_luncheon.html.
More information on the luncheon presenters:
— ArrayXpress (Raleigh, NC – www.arrayxpress.com) provides
microarray services to companies interested in identifying
genes regulating phenotypic traits of interest. The company’s
proprietary intellectual property allows it to generate the
highest quality results available in the market and at lower
costs than otherwise available.
— Affinergy, Inc. (Durham, NC – www.affinergy.com) is a
biomaterials company that has developed an innovative
technology called “interfacial biomaterials” (IFBMs). IFBMs
enable the regulation of the interface of two surfaces
(adhesion or, if desired, repulsion) at the molecular level.
This patent pending technology can be custom designed for
almost all substrates, including both biological and
non-biological materials.
Jeff Clark of RTP’s The Aurora Funds and Adrian Wilson of Columbia, SC-based The Trelys Funds will respond to the presenting entrepreneurs with questions, providing insight into what venture capitalists are looking for in investment opportunities. Corporate sponsor for the event is Comerica Bank Technology and Life Sciences Division.
More than 30 companies have been Capital Connection luncheon presenters since 1998. Over 85% of those companies have subsequently raised equity capital. CED’s Capital Connection Luncheon is part of CED’s comprehensive Capital Connection mentoring programs that assist entrepreneurs at various stages, from idea to initial funding, by providing mentors and instruction. Capital Connection (www.cednc.org/capitalconnection) provides entrepreneurs with tools to evaluate their ideas, refine their business concepts, develop business plans and raise capital.
