THE FTSE 100 ended at its highest level so far this year, led by financials such as the venture capitalist 3i. The index closed up 36.1 at 4011.1, 25 per cent above March’s eight-year low. Technologystocks surged as investor appetite for risk increased and a turnaround in the economy beckoned. The Anglo-Dutch computer services company LogicaCMG topped 350 climbers, rising 13 per cent afterreassuring investors that trading was in line with its previous guidance. Market report, page 24
