BGI’s first fund of hedge funds aims to raise $1 bln in first 18 months

Forbes – Barclays Global Investors (BGI) is aiming to garner around 1 bln usd through the launch of its first global fund of hedge funds, according to a source close to the company.

AlpEx, which was launched at the end of 2006, is BGI’s first foray into external hedge fund of fund strategy.

‘The fund aims to raise around 1 bln usd in the first eighteen months,’ the source said.

‘BGI will select individual external hedge funds through a unique selection criteria.’
