LONDON (Reuters) – International securities regulators are considering looking again at the fund of hedge funds industry in the wake of the collapse of hedge fund Amaranth, a senior regulator said onThursday.
Hubert Reynier, who chairs a committee on investment management for the International Organisation of Securities Commissioners (IOSCO), said IOSCO had established guidelines for this sector back in 2003, but now wanted to have another look.
Reynier, who is also a managing director at French watchdog the Autorite des Marches Financiers, said they were looking at a survey of the industry because of the high level of retail investors in funds of funds in certain countries.
