Hedge Fund Soccer Club

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (HEDGECO.NET) – Hedge Funds have begun to have a growing intrest in the football industry. In an article published by Times-online, many hedge funds like, Perry Capital, Och-Ziff Capital Management, and Citadel are playing parts as investors in teams such as Malcolm Glazer’s Manchester United.

The US based hedge fund Polygon is working with UBS to take Sir John Hall’s place as shareholder in Newcastle United, the premier football club, in which he currently owns 28.5% .

They have been working on a buyout proposal for several months now. According to the Times, Douglas, Hall’s son, is connected to further interests that account for about another 13% of the shares. Shepherd Offshore, the company connected to the Newcastle United chairman, Freddy Shepherd, owns another 26.7% of the club.

Newcastle United was bought for an estimated £3m in 1991.
