Michael Dell-backed SkyBridge raises $330 mln fund

Reuters – SkyBridge Capital LLC, a hedge fund manager backed by Dell Inc. (DELL.O: Quote, Profile, Research) founder Michael Dell, said on Wednesday it raised $330 million for its maiden fund aimed at providing seed capital to hedge fund start-ups.

At the same time, SkyBridge said it invested in two budding hedge funds, Westport Capital Partners LLC and Brompton Cross Capital Advisers LLC.

MSD Capital, a private investment firm that exclusively manages the capital of Michael Dell and his family, is one of the largest investors in SkyBridge.

Westport Capital, founded by former Oaktree Capital real estate investor Russel Bernard, focuses mainly in distressed real estate assets. Brompton, led by former hedge fund portfolio manager Storm Boswick of Sigma Capital, a subsidiary of SAC Capital, focuses mainly on technology, media and telecommunications investments.
