Top Lehman banker in Europe to join hedge fund

Reuters – Benoit d’Angelin, co-head of European investment banking at Lehman Brothers (LEH.N: Quote, Profile, Research), is to leave the U.S. firm tojoin hedge fund Centaurus Capital, the bank said on Thursday.

Christian Meissner, currently co-head of German investment banking at Lehman, will replace him alongside Perry Hoffmeister, who is the other co-head of European investment banking.

D’Angelin, who has played a major part in building up the bank’s operations in Europe, has been with Lehman for 12 years.

D’Angelin, who has headed European investment banking for six years, told Reuters people might wonder why he was leaving when the firm was so successful.

“I think I have achieved all the goals and more that I set myself six years ago. It’s time to think about the next challenge in your life.” Jeremy Isaacs, chief executive of Lehman Brothers in Europe and Asia, said discussion about potential successors to d’Angelin had been under discussion for some time.

“The decision was very much one of natural evolution,” he told Reuters.
