Frat VP Plans to Start a Hedge Fund

CU Columbia Spectator – While other juniors are frantic to hear back about summer internships at big investment firms, Lightcap is relaxed. He’s already got his.

Lightcap, class treasurer and vice president of Pi Kappa Alpha, has worked in the finance world for over a year.

“Since I was 10, I invested my money in the stock market. It really interests me, I’m good with numbers, I like economics, and it’s a really exciting industry,” he said, ”and it pays really well. It’s always nice to have nice things to buy.”

A departure from the usual client-oriented field of investment banking, Lightcap’s job at Value Holdings, a small hedge fund, involves more straight investing.

“I prefer to do my own thing. I got into this because I like investing, and I like buying stocks—not because I enjoy executing trades and dealing with clients,” he explained. “Our clients give us the money, and as long as we’re doing well, we never hear from them.”
