WEST PALM BEACH, FL (HEDGECO.NET) – The Swedish fund company, AP-Fonden is considering investing in Hedge Fund managers, according to a news release. The firm stated its intention to research hedgefunds, and its suitability as an investment option for the company. Speaking to this apparent interest, Sofia Ericsson, AP�s head of alternative investments, said the firm is also looking intoadditional real estate investments as well.
Ericsson said, �In 2004 the fund will continue its efforts to select and invest in private equity funds and will begin researching hedge funds and additional real estate investments.� She also said, �We are in the midst of a build-up phase for alternative investments.�
On another matter, Sofia disclosed that the company will no longer pay staff bonuses, because such a system no longer serves the firms purposes. Addressing that issue managing director William Sandeberg said, �Now that the government�s new guidelines for incentive schemes in state-owned companies prevent us from paying bonuses in period with falling stock markets, the stems no longer serves its purpose� according to him. The system was scrapped by the board of directors in 2004.
On implementing alternative investment strategies, AP Fonden says it hopes to increase its alternative investment portfolios. Sophia further explained, �A long-term ambition is to increase the share of alternative investments in the portfolio to 10% of the fund capital.� The company has a standing policy not to put more than 5% of its assets into unlisted securities, according to her.
