¶ Here are the highlights from the Featured Expert column:
¶ From a technical point of view, there does not appear to be anything on the radar screen that suggests a major decline is in the offing. With the help of soothing comments from Alan Greenspan, the majority of widely followed indexes have pushed their way back into or near their bull market highs. ¶ Dan Sullivan remains in the bullish camp and has been in that mode since April 8th of last year. His advice is to continue to maintain all current positions. The trend in stock prices is–as this is written–unquestionably bullish. The one worry he has at this juncture is the sentiment numbers. Having said this, he points out that this has been his main worry for some time now.
¶ Best Performing Domestic Funds
¶ The top ranked fund, new to Sullivan’s centerfold, is Hussman Strategic Growth (OTC:HSGFX). Although the fund hedges markets exposure, this is a growth fund not a hedge fund, but at times it certainly acts like one. John Hussman, the manager, analyzes price trends, volumes and valuations to measure the attractiveness of individual stocks. Depending on his assessment, he may use the S&P 100 and Russell 2000 Index, put and call options to hedge the portfolio. ¶ The second rated fund, Yacktman Focused (OTC:YAFFX) was detailed in the last issue. There is no significant change in the top ten holdings except to add they make up 50% of this concentrated portfolio and cash holdings are 28%. Eight of the ten stocks are very big companies and the whole group is showing strong profits. Dan Yacktman comments that “it is very hard to find bargains.” ¶ FPA Crescent (OTC:FPACX) is consistently at the top of Sullivan’s list. All of their risk numbers are very favorable. The change from last month shows cash up to 33%, stocks down slightly to 50%, bonds up to 17% and they are still short 10%.
