Century

Frank Russell Company, a global leader in multi-manager investment services, will bring its Endowment and Foundation Symposia Series to the Dallas area on Sept. 18, 2003. The event will address critical issues facing both trustees and staff of non-profit organizations of all types and sizes. Among the participants will be a unique mix of board members, senior investment/finance staff and senior development staff representing universities, schools, community foundations, private foundations, corporate foundations, hospitals, museums and other public charities.

“Since we are experiencing such extraordinary times in the securities markets, global economy and corporate managerial landscape, we believe it is essential that non-profit organization staff and boards interact and learn from one another, inside and outside of their respective organizations,” said Dale Kindregan, relationship manager for endowments and foundations at Russell.

The agenda for the one-day educational forum will focus on three important areas:

— Investment and spending issues

— Governance and fiduciary responsibilities

— Philanthropy in the 21st century

An outstanding roster of local endowments and foundations will participate as speakers and panelists at the Symposium. Among them are: Michael E. Patrick, Chief Investment Officer, The Meadows Foundation; Carol N. Campbell, Chief Financial Officer, Texas Christian University; Joseph H. Wright, Jr., Chief Investment Officer, Baptist Foundation of Texas; Cathy Iberg, Managing Director of Marketable Alternative Investments, University of Texas Investment Management Company (UTIMCO); Kevin McGinnis, Director of Risk Management, Texas A&M University; and Charles Wall, Asst. Vice Chancellor-Investments, Texas Tech University.

In addition to local endowment and foundation speakers, there will be a session covering the philanthropic landscape and the donor of the 21st century led by Charles W. Collier, Senior Philanthropic Advisor at Harvard University; a session on non-profit board member audit and legal fiduciary responsibilities conducted by Terry L. Simmons, Esq., Partner at Thompson & Knight, LLP and a presentation on non-profit investment committee behavioral dynamics led by Arnold S. Wood, President and CEO of Martingale Asset Management-Boston.

Several senior representatives from Russell, including Kindregan, also will speak: D. Don Ezra, Director of Strategic Advice; George Oberhofer, Senior Practice Consultant; and David Tsujimoto, Director of Alternative Investments.

Among the key topics that will be addressed are:

— Best practices in non-profit investment governance – The task

upon which a solid organization is built and how it serves as

a shield against liability

— Asset allocation and spending policy taken to another level –

Understanding how alternative investments fit into a

traditional model, and issues to consider with various

spending strategies

— Committee dynamics and investment behavior – Are your

investment committee members making the best decisions for

your endowment?

— Are hedge funds right for your organization? – Understanding

the characteristics of these complicated strategies

— Keeping the house in order – A legal and accounting

perspective on board and senior staff fiduciary responsibility

This is the seventh event in Russell’s Endowment and Foundation Symposia Series. Russell’s Kindgregan said the first six events – held in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Louisville, and Boston – were extraordinarily well received. The Dallas event will take place on Sept. 18 at the Four Seasons Resort & Club Dallas at Las Colinas in Irving. (Please note: the event is closed to the media, but follow-up interviews can be arranged).
