Gold Falls Hard vs. Dollar as Stocks & Commodities Sink, Faces “Definite Downside Risks”

Monday, August 17, 2009 : Permalink

BullionVault – The Gold Price fell sharply against a strong US Dollar on Monday morning, falling through what one Asian dealer called "technical and psychological support at $942" to record the lowest Gold Fix so far this month at $937.50 an ounce.

Crude oil sank below $66 per barrel, while base metals and silver lost more than 3%.

Adding to Friday’s 0.7% loss despite news that France and Germany crept out of recession between April and July, world stock markets sank 1.4% early Monday on average – the biggest one-day loss in more than six weeks – after Japan reported 0.9% growth in its second-quarter GDP.

Stock futures flat ahead of Madoff sentencing

Monday, June 29, 2009 : Permalink

Reuters – Dow Jones futures dipped 0.1 percent, S&P 500 futures were down 0.01 percent while Nasdaq futures traded 0.02 percent higher on Monday morning at 4:45 a.m. EDT, pointing to a flat opening for Wall Street’s main equity indexes.

With corporate earnings and economic data calendars virtually void of potentially market-moving events, the focus will be on the sentencing of confessed swindler Bernard Madoff.

At a court hearing due to begin at 10 a.m. EDT, U.S. District Judge Denny Chin is expected by legal observers to sentence Madoff, 71, to an effective life term in prison.

Partner Files Hedge Fund Management Complaint

Tuesday, August 12, 2008 : Permalink

West Palm Beach (HedgeCo.net) – The Manager of the K Squared Funds, a New York-based group of hedge funds, was named as a defendant in a lawsuit filed by his ex-partner. The suit brings claims for fraud, breach of contract, unjust enrichment, and bad faith dealing in connection with the hedge funds.

Filed in the Commercial Division of New York Supreme Court, New York County, the complaint details how Kane and the hedge funds benefited by false attribution of income to Kane’s ex-partner by profiting from the interest income while saddling the ex-partner with the tax bill, and how Kane failed to comply with his contractual obligations, keeping his ex-partner in the dark about the value of the Funds.

The defendant, Chris Kane of New Canaan, Connecticut, parted ways with his partner in 2006.
