With more articles about the imminent hedge fund liquidation being released every day, where is a wise place to put capital to work? Are there any relatively 'safe' hedge funds? Would you suggest waiting until the equity market bottoms and then buying in? Or simply leaving the money in the bank?

You should contact an investment advisor regarding this question. All financial instruments have a level of risk, and hedge funds are not an exception. The key is to identify a risk level appropriate for your needs, which an investment advisor would be able to do more so than an open Q&A section on the internet.
