I would like to know what really is a hedge fund. This is sometihing is not used in Europe

A hedge fun is an investment fund open to a limited range of investors that undertakes a wider range of investment and trading activities in addition to traditional long-only investment funds, and that, in general, pays a performance fee to its investment manager. Hedge Funds come with different strategies to help investors get what they want out of the fund. Hedge funds are set up as private investment partnerships that are open to limited number of investors and require a very large initial minimum investment.
