Educational backgrounds of hedge fund employees is different at each level and type of fund. Generally speaking, an employee would have an advanced degree or many years of relevant experience. It may be possible to find some starting positions if you have a four year degree from an ivy league institution or have excellent contacts. Professional certifications may also help your chances to become employed. The most recognized is the Chartered Financial Analyst, or CFA certification. Others include the CAIA, FRM, CIPM, CFP, and CPA designations. All would indicate a significant level of competence in the field of private investments.
