    JPMorgan, Hedge Funds May Lose as Derivatives Proposal Advances

    Bloomberg – President sent his plan to rein in the $592 trillion over-the-counter derivatives industry, a measure that would cut into a profitable market for led by Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and JPMorgan Chase &; Co.

    The proposal issued yesterday would pressure derivatives users such as and hedge funds to move away from opaque customized by imposing higher capital and margin requirements on the instruments. Standardized derivatives would be moved to regulated exchanges or trading platforms and sent through official clearinghouses, according to the draft measure.

    Forbes – In December, Forbes was a to Markets Media, host of the Global Markets Summit inNew York City. Forbes Intelligent Investing Editor Michael Maiello moderated a hedge fund industry panel that included activist investors Clay Lifflander of Millcap Advisors and Stephen Roseman of Thesis Capital, along with Samuel Hocking, global head of sales for the prime brokerage at BNP Paribas and Kenneth of Corporate Resolutions.

    During the discussion, Hocking predicted a 30% for hedge funds in 2009, rising operating costs and higher margin requirements.
