    Bloomberg – Ronald Reagan used to joke that the nine most terrifying words in the English language were “I’m from the government and I’m here to help.” Barack Obama is making those words welcome.

    As he approaches his 100th day in office, Obama is rolling back the Reagan Revolution and restoring government to a central role in the economy. He has passed the biggest budget ever, prepared the way for an overhaul of the U.S. and banking industries and proposed a $634 billion government- funded expansion of health-care benefits.

    “It’s profound,” says of George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. “There are very clearly taking place some long-term, even transforming shifts in priorities and resources.”

    Harper wins anti-protectionism commitment

    Vancouver Sun – Prime Minister Stephen Harper won a key commitment for Canada at the G20 summit, getting to agree to extend for 12 months a pledge not to raise new .

    “The biggest single thing that could turn this recession into a very long, extended depression would be global ,” Harper said in a Wednesday. “In our recent budget in Canada, we actually lowered tariffs on imported machinery and equipment. It’s important that we start to see some push in the other direction, to push towards trade liberalization.”
