Tuesday, November 18, 2008 : Permalink

West Palm Beach (HedgeCo.net) – GlobeOp announced the strengthening its European-domiciled hedge fund administration services following the licensing of its Dublin office by the Irish Financial Services Regulatory Authority, expanding the company’s existing fund administration network based in the Cayman Islands and the USA.

The office is led by Jim Casey, GlobeOp’s global head of investor relations,"Ireland is a strategically important administrative center for European domiciled funds," Casey said, "Despite market turbulence this past year, the European funds sector continues to develop its long-term potential. I look forward to building a Dublin team whose best practices further strengthen our fund administration services globally.”

"The GlobeOp Ireland license allows us to directly service Irish domiciled funds and support European hedge fund clients and their investors with full fund administration services," Vernon Barback, GlobeOp president and chief operating officer said, "This includes independent and transparent fund performance reporting.”

The GlobeOp Ireland license allows GlobeOp to directly service Irish domiciled funds and support European hedge fund clients and their investors with full fund administration services.

With $108 billion in assets under administration, GlobeOp has more than 14,000 investors globally. Earlier this year the company opened a new hurricane-proof office in Caymana Bay, Cayman Islands and appointed Gary Linford, former head of the Investment & Securities Division of the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA), to its Cayman Islands subsidiary board.

GlobeOp Performance Remains Strong

Thursday, October 16, 2008 : Permalink

West Palm Beach (HedgeCo.net) – Hedge Fund provider GlobeOp Financial Services S.A. published its Interim Management Statement covering the period since 30 June 2008. As a group, GlobeOp’s clients appear to have out-performed the industry.

"I am pleased to report that we have continued to grow revenues and Assets under Administration (to US$108 billion at 30 September 2008 from $104 billion at 30 June 2008) against a background of turbulent markets and a challenging environment for our clients," Hans Hufschmid, Chief Executive Officer, said, "the three-month period to September has been the strongest quarter this year for fund launches from new clients as well as launches from existing clients. In addition, similar to the first half of 2008, client funds grew organically during the period.

Preliminary data show performance for September of approximately -3% (which includes any exposure to Lehman Brothers) and year-to-date clients show negative returns of around -5.5%. This contrasts positively with performance reports from the Barclays Hedge Fund index and the HFRX index which both show year to date returns of more than -11% through September.

In the three months prior to Lehman Brothers insolvency, GlobeOp used GoCredit to identify and assess specific exposures. As a result, clients terminated or re-assigned over half of their Lehman Brothers positions, reducing their initial margin posted with Lehman by approximately $180 million.

GlobeOp provides administration services to over 180 clients representing hundreds of distinct hedge funds with total assets of $108 billion. Established in 2000, GlobeOp today serves over 180 clients worldwide, representing $108 billion in assets under administration (AuA). With headquarters in London and New York, GlobeOp employs more than 1,800 people on three continents; offices are also located in Dublin, Ireland; George Town, Cayman Islands; Harrison, NY and Hartford, CT, U.S.A.; and Mumbai (Bombay), India.

More on Goldman’s Toronto hedge-fund office

Wednesday, July 9, 2008 : Permalink

Globe and Mail- Friday, the Ontario government put out a release announcing that the government is "thrilled’ to welcome to Toronto a new arm of Goldman Sachs Administration Services, the part of Goldman Sachs Group Inc. that helps hedge funds with back offices. But from Goldman, aside from a quote in the release, there wasn’t much more info on what fund managers can expect.

A new week brings a little more detail: The office will be a small addition to a roughly 160-person division of GS that will provide such services as portfolio analytics and accounting. The division already has offices in the Cayman Islands, Dublin, Hong Kong, Jersey City and Princeton, N.J., and the word is Goldman wanted to add capacity and liked Toronto’s skilled work force.
