Credit Suisse Hedge Fund Index Shows a Loss of 1.41% in September

New York (HedgeCo.net) – The last of the major hedge fund indices released results yesterday and the Credit Suisse Hedge Fund Index (CSHFI) showed a loss of 1.41% for the industry as a whole. The loss in September took the index in to negative territory on a year to date basis, but the loss is minor at 0.58% and remember that the YTD loss for the overall market through the end of September was 6.74%.

The top performing strategy for a second straight month and not surprisingly was the Dedicated Short Bias with a gain of 4.79%. The second best performing group during the month was the Managed Futures strategy with a gain of 2.87%.

On the year, the Dedicated Short Bias is the leading strategy with a gain of 6.97% while the second best performing strategy is the Multi-Strategy segment with a gain of 3.32%. For the year, seven of the ten strategies are in positive territory. The only three strategies in negative territory for the year are Emerging Markets (-2.93%), Event Driven (-4.07%) and Global Macro (-0.43%).
