New SEC hedge-fund rule will be tough to enforce

MarketWatch – The Securities and Exchange Commission will struggle to monitor hedge funds under a long-awaited rule that’s expected to be approved Wednesday, lawyers say.

SEC commissioners will vote on adopting a proposal they introduced in November that requires hedge-fund and private equity managers with more than $100 million in assets to register with the agency. The agency will also conduct surprise examinations of these managers.
