Wall Street Journal- In addition to bulls and bears, many hedge funds are becoming more familiar with donkeys and elephants.

Hedge Funds across the country, including a number with offices in lower Fairfield County, are contributing more money than ever to political campaigns, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan Washington, D.C., research group that tracks campaign finance issues.

The beneficiaries of a vast majority of these donations are Democratic candidates - a surprise to those who associate the high-wealth financial services sector with Republicans - but not a shock for people familiar with the hedge fund industry and their personal politics.

"It’s definitely an industry shift," said Joseph McGee, vice president of public policy for the Business Council of Fairfield County. "That’s traditionally been bedrock Republican money, and it’s not that today."
