For Only Third Time, Barry Rosenstein’s Jana Partners Reports Annual Loss

New York (HedgeCo.net) – Jana Partners, the hedge fund firm run by billionaire investor Barry Rosenstein, reported their 2015 performance yesterday and for only the third time since launching, the firm reported a loss for the year.
After gaining 1.o% in December, Jana was able to trim the annual loss down to 5.4% which is the first annual loss since 2011 when the fund lost 2.1%. The worst year for Jana was during the financial crisis when the fund was down 23.6% in 2008.

Jana is one of the first funds to report their annual results for 2015, but they certainly won’t be the only fund posting a loss for the year and the 5.4% loss certainly won’t be the worst performance we see out of the more well-known funds. Early indications suggest fellow widely-followed managers Bill Ackman and David Einhorn are expected to post losses in the double-digits based on their performance heading into the month of December and a few updates since the beginning of the month.
